Braden Eves leaves Grand Prix of St. Petersburg with one pole and one win

ST. PETERSBURG, FL (April 25, 2021) – Exclusive Autosport returned to the temporary street course of the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg this past weekend and the team scored its second win of the season in the Indy Pro 2000 Championship Presented by Cooper Tires. American Braden Eves blasted out of the gate by topping the charts in the one and only practice session on Friday, before grabbing the pole and the victory in Race 1. He came back on Sunday with a solid sixth-place finish to maintain his lead in the championship. Russia’s Artem Petrov qualified third to start the weekend and took a fourth in the opening race of the doubleheader before bouncing back from a disappointing 14th in Race 2 qualifying to record an eighth-place result. The drivers gained important points and continue to lead in the Team Championship standings.

“Braden picked right up where he left off last March when COVID shut down the weekend and having missed the season finale here in St. Pete after his IMS accident, his pole and race win was remarkable,” said Michael Duncalfe, Team Principal. “The team is gelling incredibly well and Artem’s performance added to our overall success. He scored his third straight top-five finish on Saturday and then showed patient aggression on Sunday to score a crucial eighth-place finish. That run has kept him firmly in the early-season championship hunt. I’m really proud of both of them and the EA crew. It was great to win with our Cambridge Global Payments car while we had our friends from Cambridge at the race cheering us on.”

The doubleheader event kicked off on Friday morning with Indy Pro 2000’s one and only practice session. Later in the afternoon, the drivers hit the track for Qualifying 1. Eves and Petrov were immediately fast and topped the charts. Petrov held onto the top spot until the very end of the session, when Eves grabbed away the Race 1 pole. Saturday morning started bright and early with Qualifying 2 at 8:00 am. Unfortunately, both Exclusive Autosport drivers were hindered with minor mechanical issues. Eves was only able to make four timed laps, and he pushed as hard as possible to earn the sixth starting spot. Petrov battled a mysterious shifting issue and qualified 14th. Race 1 was run on Saturday afternoon and, in dominating fashion, Braden would lead from green to checkered. Artem continued to fight for a podium spot, but ended up slipping back to fourth, just off the podium. It was his third straight top-five finish after two podiums at Barber Motorsports Park to start the season.

Sunday’s Indy Pro 2000 Race 2 took place under cloudy skies, again early in the morning. With a chance of rain, both drivers knew they needed to fight forward quickly. In typical Petrov fashion, Artem immediately went in attack mode, grabbing positions while he expertly avoided two wrecks that would have ended his day. He advanced six positions to finish in the eighth position, earning the ‘Hard Charger’ award for Race 2 in the process. Eves got a tremendous start as well, moving up to the fourth spot on the opening lap. Braden would continue to fight for another podium finish, but after a lot of shuffling around the last couple laps, he was forced to settle for sixth.

In the Indy Pro 2000 Championship Presented by Cooper Tires point standings, Eves left the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg with the lead, with Petrov in fourth just eight points behind third. The team also continues to lead in the Team Championship, which provides the team with the first pit boxes on pit lane for the next event. The next event on the calendar is in three weeks, as part of the GMR Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Exclusive Autosport fans and supporters can catch this race live on www.roadtoindy.tv or on the Road to Indy TV App. As always, follow our social media outlets for coverage throughout the race weekend.

INDY PRO 2000 – ROUND 3/4 – APRIL 23-25, 2021
INDY PRO 2000 GRAND PRIX OF ST. PETERSBURG – ST. PETERSBURG, FL

ARTEM PETROV – #42
Qualifying 1: 3rd – 1:09.270
Qualifying 2: 14th – 1:09.084
Race 1: Start – 3rd / Finish – 4th
Race 2: Start – 14th / Finish – 8th

Driver Quote: “This weekend in St. Pete was much harder for me mentally than Barber, because last fall I had a crash here which caused me to lose my third place in the championship, so I had to change my mindset to prepare for it. Starting with practice, it wasn’t too bad, I just needed to put it all together. In the first qualifying session, I had brake issues but thankfully I finished my best lap before the red flag came out and that’s how I managed to finish in P3. In the second qualifying session, I had electrical issues, so I had downshifting problems which is why I qualified P14. It’s a shame that it happened, but I still had to prepare for Race 1. It was really hard to race after the qualifying session because I needed to change mentally to prepare because it was really hard to drive the car with this issue. I ended up P4 in Race 1, which is rather good, but it is not what I wanted because I tried for a podium. In the last race, the goal was to score as many points as I could. The start was quite hard because there was a big crash in front of me, but I kept pushing to overtake as many positions as I could and I finished P8, which is crazy good with where I qualified. Thank you to my EA crew for all their hard work.”

BRADEN EVES – #91
Qualifying 1: 1st – 1:08.936
Qualifying 2: 6th – 1:08.670
Race 1: Start – 1st / Finish – 1st

Driver Quote: “It was a great weekend in St Pete. I wish we could have had the whole second qualifying session as I could have had two wins easily this weekend. Overall, it was a great team effort and I’m excited for the rest of the season. I would like to thank our team sponsor, Cambridge Global Payments, for their support to my team and myself.”

Christian Brooks takes over the championship lead after Rounds 3 and 4

ST. PETERSBURG, FL (April 24, 2021) – Exclusive Autosport returned to the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg in winning fashion this past weekend, scoring the victory in Rounds 3 and 4 of the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship. The weather was warm and humid throughout the temporary street circuit event, making for a physical weekend for both the drivers and the crew of the EA squad. All four drivers came out the box looking racy and by the time qualifying and racing came around, Exclusive Autosport was on top of the charts. Californian Christian Brooks delivered an incredible all-around performance with one pole and two wins. Englishman Matt Round-Garrido grabbed his best Road to Indy finish with a second-place in the opening race of the doubleheader, capping the event with another top-five. Both of the team’s rookies – Billy Frazer and Grant Palmer – fought their way through the field in both races, advancing closer to the front. Exclusive Autosport left St. Petersburg with the lead in the Team Championship and the Driver Championship with Brooks.

“The Grand Prix of St. Petersburg was extremely solid for the Exclusive Autosport team,” said Michael Duncalfe, Team Principal. “Christian absolutely dominated the weekend, winning both races, and Matt delivered great performances as well with a podium and a fourth-place. Billy and Grant both drove incredibly well for their first time on a street circuit. Overall, I am happy with how the team performed. We almost locked out the Race 1 podium, which would have been an amazing accomplishment. It was a massive weekend for our USF2000 team, and I want to thank our dedicated crew as well. Our entire squad has come together. I also want to give a huge thank you to Cambridge Global Payments for their constant support. We were lucky enough to have our friends from Cambridge here with us and I’m super thankful we put on an amazing performance for them.”

The weekend kicked off on Friday morning with their one and only practice session, followed by their two qualifying sessions. Brooks put his car on the pole, almost beating his track record from last fall. Round-Garrido would lock out the front row for the EA squad as they led the field to the green for Race 1. The race was slowed several times with one red flag and quite a few full-course cautions, but this did not faze Brooks, who went unchallenged for the win from the green to the checker, as the race ended under another full-course caution. Round-Garrido was also unchallenged in the second position. Frazer started in the eighth spot, and he capitalized on the chaos to work his way up to the third position. With just two green flag laps left, he slipped back a spot and brought home an incredible fourth-place finish as the race’s top rookie. Palmer was EA’s mover of the race! Starting from the 25th spot after tapping the wall in Qualifying 1, Grant had his work cut out for him. He did a fantastic job missing the wreckage throughout the race and was making great passes. He finished in the 12th position, moving up an incredible 13 positions. He was named the ‘Hard Charger’ for the race.

Race 2 took place later in the afternoon under extremely hot and humid weather. Unlike the first race, it was not as chaotic and only had one full-course caution. Brooks started in the second position and on the one and only restart, he forced the leader into a slight error heading into Turn 1 and then slipped underneath to take over the lead and the win. Under the same restart, Round-Garrido attempted to grab second but made a small mistake and fell back to fourth, where he would finish the race. Both Frazer and Palmer again advanced a few spots each, getting the necessary points they were looking for.

In the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship point standings, Brooks leaves St. Petersburg leading the standings, with Frazer in eighth, Round-Garrido in ninth, and Palmer in 17th. The next event on the calendar is in three weeks as part of the GMR Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. I was constantly learning throughout the weekend and even on the final lap of Race 2 I felt I was still coming to terms with the track. Race 1 was the highlight of the round for me. I was so close to my first podium in the USF2000 championship. I’m really proud of the way I bounced back after a difficult Friday afternoon qualifying. To make 11 overtakes over two races on one of the toughest tracks out there, I’m more confident going into Round 3. Unfortunately, in Race 2 I made a small mistake going for a second which cost me the podium. I want to say a massive thank you to the Exclusive Autosport team for all their hard work, giving me such great equipment and absolute rocket ship of a car. A big thanks to everyone involved, especially Michael Duncalfe and my Dad for this opportunity, and my mechanic Danick Bernier. Eves wins opener as Petrov delivers double-podium performance in Alabama

BIRMINGHAM, AL (April 18, 2021) – Exclusive Autosport returned to the rolling hills of Barber Motorsports Park this past weekend for Rounds 1 and 2 of the Indy Pro 2000 Championship Presented by Cooper Tires. The weekend event featured cloudy and sunny conditions, however, the final round on Sunday was under sunny and warm weather. American Braden Eves showed right away that he was ready to attack the season, grabbing the pole for Race 1 in the Cambridge Global Payments PM-18, setting a new track record in the process. Eves followed up his qualifying performance by leading every lap of the race from green to checker. Russia’s Artem Petrov scored a pair of podium finishes over the weekend finishing second to Eves in Race 1 before advancing from sixth to third in Race 2. The Exclusive Autosport duo now sit first and second in the championship standings.

“I’m extremely happy with our first outing of the season,” said Michael Duncalfe, Team Principal. “At the start of the weekend, we announced our extended partnership with Cambridge Global Payments which would be carried as title sponsor on Braden’s Indy Pro 2000 car, title sponsor on our USF2000 driver Billy Frazer’s car and associate sponsor on all other EA cars. Eves and Petrov work quite well together and it’s really showing. Coming away with three podiums and first and second in the championship is a great start to the season. I can’t thank Cambridge enough for the constant support and continued partnership with them. I also want to sincerely thank the EA crew. They work so incredibly hard both at the track and in the shop. Their dedication and commitment to their craft and the team is so appreciated. We wouldn’t have had the results on track this weekend without them.”

The doubleheader event kicked off on Thursday morning with two unofficial test sessions. Eves and Petrov constantly kept clicking off fast laps, with Petrov finishing on top of Test 2. The team opted out of the official practice later in the afternoon, as did most the other teams in order to save tires for qualifying and the two races. Friday’s action kicked off with Qualifying 1 and EA jumped to the top of the charts late in the session as Eves clinched the pole with a new track record. Petrov was only 0.0747 seconds behind for second place, and he too was under the previous track record, which belonged to the team when Parker Thompson drove for EA in 2018. Later in the day in Qualifying 2, a red flag ended the session early and Eves would have to settle for a fourth-place starting spot while Petrov’s pace lined him up on the outside of row three from Race 2.

Saturday’s Indy Pro 2000 Race 1 took place midday under sunny skies. From the green flag, both Eves and Petrov jumped to an early lead and continued the trend to the checkered flag. Eves, 22, grabbed a bonus point for leading the most laps in the process. Race 2 was held on Sunday morning, and right away, both drivers were on the attack. After just two turns, the drivers had improved their positions to third and fourth and by turn five, Petrov was able to overtake Eves for the third spot. Both drivers stalked the leaders, but by the end they had to settle for third and fourth.

In the Indy Pro 2000 Championship Presented by Cooper Tires point standings, Eves left Barber Motorsports Park leading the standings, with Petrov in second just four points behind the lead. The next event on the calendar is set for this weekend at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. Driver Quote: “It was a great weekend at Barber. 1-2 in Qualifying 1 and Race 1 is an unbelievably good result for the team and I’m happy with that. Race 2 was also good, as I managed to overtake two guys on the opening lap and finished the race in third. The only thing I would like to have changed in Qualifying 2 is that I didn’t manage to put all together during one lap. I’m looking forward to St. Petersburg race week and some more podiums!”

I can’t wait for St. Pete because it’s my best track historically and definitely one of my favorites to drive. I have to keep pushing for more wins, as it’s a long season and I can’t let up at all!”

In 2019, Artem came stateside to join the Road to Indy in Indy Pro 2000 with a limited program of three races to finish the season. This effort was highlighted by a seventh-place finish in his oval debut at World Wide Technology Raceway, and then a pair of top-fives at Portland and Weather Tech Raceway Laguna Seca. Having made an impact in his debut run, Petrov returned to the Indy Pro 2000 series in 2020, scoring his first win at Road America in July, following up with a second victory at Mid-Ohio late in the month. Since coming to the Road to Indy, Petrov has complied a strong result featuring 19 top-10s, 13 top-fives, seven podiums, one pole and two wins.

“It’s very exciting to have Artem join the team for the 2021 Indy Pro 2000 season,” enthused Michael Duncalfe, Exclusive Autosport Team Principal. “Artem has great work ethic and is a proven winner. The EA team strives for wins and championships, and I feel with Petrov and Eves leading the charge this year, we have a very good chance at our first championship. I’m looking forward to getting this season started and seeing how we stack up when we unload at Barber for the season opener.”

EA is working hard in preparation for the 2021 Road to Indy season opener at Barber Motorsports Park on April 15-18. The team will continue testing with their four confirmed drivers: Braden Eves, Christian Brooks, Billy Frazer, and now, Artem Petrov.

Accomplished American karter enters team’s development program for new year

SASKATOON, SK (February 23, 2021) – Exclusive Autosport is happy to announce that 16-year-old American driver Joey Brienza II will be joining the EA team for the 2021 Formula Race Promotions F1600 Championship Series season. The Colorado resident will pilot the team’s trademark red and white #91 Spectrum F1600 in an eight-event schedule that spans the eastern half of the United States. Brienza is graduating to open wheel formula cars from an intensive effort in national level karting, in which he collected multiple wins and podium finishes over the years. Moving to F1600 is the natural progression and will begin Joey’s drive to reach his goal of racing in NTT INDYCAR SERIES.

“I am extremely excited and grateful to begin this new chapter in my racing career,” said Brienza. “It has been a dream of mine to compete in cars since my early days in go-karts and to get that opportunity now is a great feeling. I would like to give a massive thank you to the entire Exclusive Autosport team, and specifically, Michael and Kimberly Duncalfe, and Danick Bernier. Thank you for this opportunity and I look forward to achieving great things together. In addition, I would like to thank my Mom, Dad, brother, and sister for their continual support of me and always pushing me to be better. I would also like to thank God. And I would also like to express a sincere appreciation to Seth Nash, Greg Welch, Chris Giumarra, Chris Wehrheim, and my entire karting family for helping me get to this point in my career. I look forward to the 2021 F1600 campaign with Exclusive Autosport, and now with this said, it is time to get to work.”

Brienza got his start, like most, in karting at the age of ten in 2014, competing locally in the Colorado based racing series, The Rockies Series, where he would grab his first official win in the Mini category. In 2016, Joey made the step to compete nationally while still competing in the Mini category, and in 2017 he made the jump to the Junior ranks, grabbing podiums in the California Pro Kart Challenge while he also competed in the IAME International Finals. In 2018, Brienza raced in Europe where he podiumed at the ADAC Karting Championship (Germany). Joey made his transition to the highly competitive senior ranks in 2019 where he has continued to grab numerous wins and podiums in the Los Angeles Karting Championship, California ROK Championship, ROKFest West, and the Stars and Stripes Championship. In 2020, he was crowned the California ProKart Challenge X30 Senior Champion.

2020 New Zealand F1600 champ will be primed coming off Toyota Racing Series experience

SASKATOON, SK (February 11, 2021) – Exclusive Autosport is excited to announce that 18-year-old Billy Frazer will be joining the EA team for the 2021 Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship season. Fresh off his New Zealand Formula Ford F1600 championship title and valuable experience in the recent Toyota Racing Series, Frazer is poised and ready for the next step of his racing career, the Road to Indy. Frazer will join the team in March, when he will take to the track for his first experience in the Tatuus USF-17.

“I am super excited to have teamed up with Michael Duncalfe and the Exclusive Autosport operation for this year’s Cooper Tires USF2000 series,” said Frazer. “I am really looking forward to the challenge of racing a different car on different tracks in a new country. Heading to the States to race has always been a dream of mine and now that it is almost a reality. I can’t wait!”

Frazer got his start in karting at the young age of nine in 2012. He was successful in grabbing wins in his home country of New Zealand and he also went on to represent his country at the 2015 ROK Cup Superfinal in Italy, as well as the 2015 Superkarts! USA SuperNationals in Las Vegas, running against some of the stiffest competition in the world. In 2017, Frazer made his first jump into cars by competing in a half season of Formula Vee before committing to a full season in 2018 and 2019. In 2018, Billy would finish fifth in the championship, but he would come back in 2019 to place third in the title chase. The 2020 season brought on new challenges as he moved up to the New Zealand Formula Ford F1600 series, where he won the championship in impressive fashion with 25 wins and 32 podiums in 36 races. The young New Zealander is currently racing in the Toyota Racing Series in preparation for his 2021 Road to Indy debut at Barber Motorsports Park in mid-March.

“I’m extremely happy that Billy has chosen to race with Exclusive Autosport this season,” enthused Michael Duncalfe, Team Principal. “He is coming into the program with a lot of positive momentum from winning the 2020 New Zealand F1600 championship and competing in the 2021 TRS championship. Billy’s experience and winning attitude will be a valuable asset as he makes the move to the USF2000 Championship. I am looking forward to seeing Billy compete in an EA prepared Tatuus USF2000. I believe it’s going to be a great season for the EA team.”

Exclusive Autosport has continued its extensive off-season testing with confirmed drivers Braden Eves (Indy Pro 2000) and Christian Brooks (USF2000). The team will continue its testing schedule up until the Road to Indy’s Spring Training event at the beginning of April.
